Why we need to raise money:
Yorkshire Yoga was established
as a not-for-profit organisation in February 2005 (download
our governing document and latest accounts, right). We are
now in the process of registering with the Charity Commission.
Yorkshire Yoga is committed to teacher training, yoga research,
the provision of yoga classes for all ages, ability levels
and incomes. It regularly provides free weekly classes for
disabled adults and free workshops/one-to-one sessions for
special needs children.
Yorkshire Yoga is engaged
in a multi-staged application process for Sport England
Yorkshire’s Community Investment Fund which can fund
35-65% of a project’s total cost. On the 8th of November
the Community Sport Network (CSN) team and the district’s
disabilities officer visited our class for wheelchair users
and carers. On the 13th of November, the CSN (for the first
time ever in the Harrogate District!) approved a proposal
to go forward in the Sport England grant process.
The total project cost is £122,500.
However, in order to proceed to the next stage, we have
to show we have secured the promise of partnership funding.
This matched funding cannot come from another Lottery source,
so we are applying to other grant-making organisations and
corporate sponsors. If you can help us locate sources of
funding, please let us know!
YY has to contribute £12,250 (10%
of total cost) itself, which is why we are launching the
Silent Auction of Promises in tandem with the Lie Down fundraising
events.
If Yorkshire Yoga is able to purchase the premises with
grants and donations, it would give grant-making bodies
confidence in the long-term stability of our organisation.
It would also reduce our overheads enough so that we could
hire a much-needed full-time administrative supervisor to
act as continuity for the rota of volunteers. The main administrative
people are unpaid, exhausted and at burnout point. Please
help!
