YOGA CENTRE SECURES VITAL FUNDS FOR EXPANSION PROJECT
Yorkshire Yoga has commenced work
on its premises to refurbish the existing first floor and
to extend the building so that people with disabilities
will have equal access to all of the charity’s work.
Please see Building
Control ‘Access Statement’.

The extension will provide a new
fitness/assessment room geared for people with disabilities
who will gain access to this room and the other first floor
facilities via a new lift for disabled people. The upstairs
meeting room will be enlarged and soundproofed, allowing
it to be used as a second studio for community classes.
A new commercial fire alarm system will be installed throughout
the building.

The grant funding
also provides for a wide range of new specialist equipment
such as ceiling hoists in the fitness room, studio and the
new disabled toilet/shower facilities; disability-friendly
rehabilitation equipment, such as a Balancemaster and remedial
parallel bars; and special medical equipment required for
assessing and monitoring the progress of our beneficiaries.

OUR CAPITAL
FUNDERS:
The monies raised by Yorkshire Yoga volunteers and student
donations over the last year gave a kickstart to the fundraising
campaign. Soon thereafter, partnership funding was obtained
from three different sources:--
1. Waste Recycling Enviornmental Ltd (WREN), which helps
benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites,
2. Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF), which supports
not-for-profit organisations and charities involved in the
delivery of innovative health and social care services,
and
3. Knaresborough Relief in Need Charity, which helps fund
projects in the local Knaresborough community.
FIT 4 HEALTH MINIBUS:
The SEIF funding is also providing a new minibus which is
being converted so that it can transport six wheelchair
users and 3 carers. The minibus will be part of the charity’s
Fit 4 Health pilot exercise referral scheme offered to the
local GP practices free of charge.
As transport is usually a problem
for people with disabilities, the SEIF-funded minibus will
allow the charity to collect disabled people from the GP
surgeries so that they can attend Fit 4 Health exercise
classes and receive healthy lifestyle advice at the charity
premises.

FIT 4
HEALTH REVENUE GRANT SUCCESS:
Revenue funding for the charity’s Fit 4 Health pilot
scheme has come from Awards for All. Last year, Awards for
All gave the charity £5,407 to get teachers trained
as qualified exercise referral consultants so that they
could deliver individualised exercise programmes to special
populations suffering from disabling health conditions.
This year, Awards for All has given the charity another
£4,593 to expand the Fit 4 Health programme.
BUILDING
PROGRESS UPDATE:
The builders have extended the old office area and constructed
the new upper floor which will become the new fitness/assessment/treatment
room. Most excitingly, the new lift has been installed which
will allow disabled individuals to access the first floor
of the building.
CLASS SCHEDULE DURING BUILDING
WORK:
All classes and workshops are running as normal throughout
the term which ends on 31 March. Evening classes will continue
during the first two weeks of April. However, daytime classes
will not be in operation during April as the internal renovation
work will be taking place at that time.
TARGETED COMPLETION DATE:
We plan to have a gala re-opening ceremony at 2 PM on Saturday,
7th of May. We hope you can join us for this celebration.

History
of Yorkshire Yoga's fundraising:
In February 2009, Yorkshire Yoga (registered charity
no. 1124347) received a Community Investment Fund (CIF)
grant from Sport England and several funding partners including
Yorkshire Yoga itself, the British Wheel of Yoga, the Community
Chest of Harrogate Borough Council, Knaresborough Lions
and the North Yorkshire Yoga Federation. The funding was
used to purchase Yorkshire Yoga's premises.
See article -- Sport
England Success for Yoga Centre.
With a permanent home, Yorkshire Yoga's future is secure
and sustainable. In line with the terms and conditions of
the CIF, Yorkshire Yoga's board of trustee-directors is
committed to increasing the participation of targeted priority
groups within the community.
