HOT Yoga |
 |
A series of 26 demanding postures practised in a hot room.
Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles,
ligaments and joints, stimulating the organs, glands and
nerves. On a physical level, you can change the body’s
shape, develop muscle tone and lose inches. On a mental
level, you can improve concentration, patience and self-control,
hopefully leading to mental clarity and relief from stress!
Beginners classes are suited for all levels of ability.
Drink lots of water before you arrive, bring a towel and
a bottle of water. See prohibitions/precautions; print Hot
Yoga registration form.

A
challenging series that dynamically flows from one posture
to the next, linked together by the breath-movement synchronisation
of vinyasa. This is an aerobic workout that increases upper
body strength and flexibilty in a short period of time. Modifications
will be offered to ensure the proper alignment and safety
of a posture. It is sometimes known as 'power yoga' and it
achieved great popularity after celebrities Madonna and Sting
publicised the benefits. Practised at normal room temperature,
but you get sizzling hot. |

Yoga for
Weight Loss Pilot |
 |
The
holistic weight loss pilot was developed for a qualitative
research study conducted by Leeds Univeristy. Both a yoga
group and a control group (that did not receive the yoga class)
were on the same healthy diet and weekly weight monitoring.
At the end of the study the control group had lost 57 pounds
compared to 210 lbs lost by the Yoga Group. Healthy eating,
gentle yoga, core stability exercise, relaxation and affirmation.

Yoga is the best known and most widely practised yoga in the
West. It is for all ages and all abilities. This is the course
to choose if you are looking for balance and harmony in your
life -- asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing) and pratyahara

Core Yoga and Pilates |
|
Core
Yoga is the fusion of Yoga and Pilates blending the best of
both disciplines into a cohesive practice. This is gentle
yoga practice with emphasis on postural alignment and core
stability, particularly beneficial for those suffering from
back or neck problems. It is also highly recommended for the
'gentle years' or for those who are in recovery after surgery
or childbirth. The teacher is qualified as a yoga teacher
with the British Wheel of Yoga and is also a Modern Pilates
instructor. |
| Pregnancy |
 |
Yoga
for Pregnancy are sessions specifically addressing mums-to-be.
Stretching whilst strengthening helps to release the pelvic
opening in preparation for childbirth. Toning the pelvic floor
allows for a more controlled birthing, lessens complications
and enhances postnatal recovery. Breath work and relaxation
techniques are practised in preparation for labour. Flexibility
and calm ease the birthing process, thus reducing pain and
increasing the joy of giving birth. BWY teacher has ompleted
advanced training with the Wheel's Yoga for Pregnancy course.
The class is usually packed to maximum with people who have
booked up to their due date. There is a waiting list for the
next available place(s) which should come up within a month
or so of your pre-registration. Download Yoga
for Pregnancy registration form. |

Yoga
for Children classes are after school on Mondays at 4:45pm,
taught by our specialist teacher from the British Wheel of
Yoga. The children have lots of fun making animal shapes,
engaging their imaginations as well as their concentration
skills. Relaxation is an important aspect of the course as
children learn techniques to relieve stress from pressures
at school, i.e. exams, peer group problems. |

Sessions
are free to wheelchair-users and their carers. Wheelchair
users will be gently lifted from their chairs with our new
mobile hoist so that they can perform modified versions of
yoga postures on yoga mats. “The hoist is a wonderful
piece of equipment, and now I'm not dubious of it any more!
To be able to get on the floor and stretch, with help, was
a great sensation. The building is fully accessible, and has
a disabled toilet. The teachers are very helpful, positive
and full of encouragement.” -- Julia Ellison |
